R. Scott Memhard, president of the Gloucester CDC
Mr. Memhard is president of Cape Pond Ice, a firm that provides an essential service to the fishing fleet, crushed ice to keep the fish fresh -- as well as ice sculptures and T-shirts commemorating the Andrea Gail, a swordfish vessel fishing out of Gloucester, Massachusetts, lost in the "perfect" storm with her crew of six.
Mr. Memhard serves on a number of civic boards and commissions. He is a member of the Gloucester Fisheries Commission. He is also president of the Board of Directors of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Memhard is also Chair of the Board of Managers of the ICC-UU Gloucester, namely the Independent Christian Church, a Church affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association.
The ICC-UU Gloucester is currently engaged in an ambitious capital campaign to restore the 1806 landmark meeting house. Mr. Memhard is co-chair, with Patty Poore, Wendy Fitting, and Kate Ruzecki, of this urgent campaign. The historical building is considered not only the "mother church" of Universalism in America but also the center where religious freedom was born.
