II. Mission and Goals of GCDC

The mission of the Gloucester Community Development Corporation is to foster economic, community, and urban development within the city of Gloucester, MA. The primary purpose of the corporation is to encourage and engage community-wide participation in the planning of any major activity that is going to affect the life of the community for years to come.  A specific goal is to create a leading-edge surimi plant as the fulcrum for the transformation of Gloucester into a modern seafood processing center by fostering private, local management, ownership, and control of the utilization of private, public, and common sustainable economic resources.

Goals of the Gloucester Community Development Corporation are as follows:

Long term: Transform Gloucester into a high-tech seafood-processing center

and engage the community in discussion about a plan of Urban Restoration.

Medium term: Develop a turnkey operation for a surimi plant in Gloucester.
This plant would be owned and operated by an entity separate from the GCDC. It would be organized as a for profit private corporation. For purposes of identification, we are giving it the tentative name of Gloucester Fish Inc.

Short term: Gather a group of fishermen and processors and marketers together to update past studies of pelagics and review the UMass Marine Station latest technology.  Integrate these two facets into one document that can be presented to any funding source for turnkey operation of surimi plant.

Immediate goals: talk with organizations that can provide technical assistance to the CDC.
